PetSmart Inc. is a specialty pet retailer offering products and services, like pet grooming and boarding, in its 1,660 pet stores in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The Phoenix-based company also owns online pet food retailer Chewy.com, which it acquired in 2017. As of this writing, the privately-owned company has 56,000 employees.
Career opportunities at PetSmart include pet grooming associates and retail-store associates. Working with pets every day does not seem like a job at all for an animal lover. But first, you need to know how the hiring process works at the company or, better yet, which requirements and tests to prepare for to get hired.
Does PetSmart Drug Test Employees?
For starters, PetSmart makes it clear in its Code of Ethics and Integrity about employees not working under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Prescribed medication is included “if it impairs their ability to work safely.” Likewise, employees are prohibited from using, possessing, or distributing illegal drugs in the workplace.
Pre-employment Drug Testing
The company has seemingly changed its stance on pre-employment drug testing if one looks at online posts that date a year ago about PetSmart not requiring such drug testing for potential employees.
Drug Testing during Employment
An employee may be asked to undergo a drug test due to reasonable suspicion or following an incident in the workplace.
The Answer
While it’s good news that PetSmart has no pre-employment drug test, one less hurdle to take care of, confirm it with the company’s hiring personnel or employees you know and make reasonable preparations. Also, stay tuned for updates.
